The OmniLearn Story

For over 25 years, we've been opening eyes and minds to the joys of science

Jane’s passion for reaching young minds took her on a journey that ultimately allowed her to design her own teaching programs in schools and even the esteemed Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory

It was in this lab that she was able to first fulfill what would become her lifelong mission:

To bring the lab bench to the classroom, exposing students of all ages to rigorous and relevant scientific ideas and techniques.

From humble beginnings to today’s growing staff, OmniLearn has been embraced and beloved by over 100 schools in New York City

Our students

have gone onto high level careers in science and research, and teachers find a lifelong impact on their craft as well, developing their own skills as educators utilizing our signature techniques.

Today, We've Expanded our STEM-based Programs to fulfill a Broader Vision:

A lead Community Based Organization for New York schools and districts, to transform education across the state into an immersive and stimulating space where students can get out from the desks and grow as passionate individuals.

Meet With Our Team

OmniLearn was founded in 1996 as a result of significant research, development, and observation of classrooms across the country.

Our model has been refined and expanded across diverse sets of backgrounds, communities, and student levels of need. Rooted in a neuroscientific approach to cognitive development and engagement, we've produced reliable and remarkable results in students, teachers, and schools.

However, the true idea for OmniLearn was born in the 1970s,

when Jane Powel, then a beginning 2nd grade teacher trained in elementary ed, left the school system in frustration with what she saw was a broken system of education.

While it can be difficult to measure the full impact of our work, we do get consistent feedback from OmniLearners:

We aim to transform science education in NYC schools into investigative and self-affirming spaces where students AND teachers can grow, through a radically personalized approach rooted in neuroscientific research.
